This Maxon Flanger came in a lot with several other pedals I purchased. I got lucky with this one—it was already working and only needed some cleanup and routine maintenance.
I checked several of the capacitors, and they were still in good condition, so I decided not to do a full recap as I typically would. The original foam had completely disintegrated, leaving remnants stuck all over the pots. I thoroughly cleaned all of the pots and jacks with DeoxIT to make sure everything was functioning properly.
I also added new foam to help keep the batteries secure and give the inside a more original appearance. The pedal was carefully cleaned inside and out, and I waxed the exterior case. It isn’t mint, but it’s in great shape overall, showing only the typical scratches and wear you would expect from a 48-year-old pedal.
It runs on two 9V batteries and will come with two new batteries installed. It sounds excellent. With 5 knobs available for tweaking, it offers a wide range of tones, from subtle, mild flanging to wild, out-of-control modulation. It sets itself apart from the smaller form factor flangers of it’s time.
