This echo machine is the first Elk device I have purchased and I can see that they made quality gear. It worked great from the get go when I tested it which is rare for old equipment. It is in fantastic shape for it’s age. I believe it’s from 1975 as the big Toshiba transistor in the main board has a June 75 date code from what I can tell. As always, I went through my whole service process with this echo. As a precaution because capacitors aren’t designed to last forever, I replaced all the old electrolytic capacitors. Most were slightly out of spec, but a few were way out. I replace small electrolytic caps with polypropylene film caps where I can and low esr electrolytics everywhere else to help improve performance. I have polished and cleaned the tape heads, and the whole exterior of the echo as well as the jack contact points. The pots were all sprayed and cleaned with DE-Oxit to prevent any scratchiness when turning them. It will come with a working sony endless tape and be ready to enjoy the sweet echos!
